Welcome to MJJA’s Lunchtime Learning series titled – “Basics of Appellate Practice” presented by Abby McDonough.
This webinar will review the basic rules and procedures of appellate practice regarding both CAN and Delinquency cases with an emphasis on various required deadlines, motions, briefs, writs, and other related appellate practice information.

Abbey McDonough attended Saint Louis University School of Law and graduated in 2018. She then moved to Austin, Texas and worked as a Document Reviewer from 2018 to 2019. Upon moving back home in 2019, she began work as a Term Law Clerk for the now-retired Honorable Magistrate Donald Wilkerson, as well as Chief Judge Nancy Rosenstengel at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois. Upon her term ending with the federal courts in early 2021, she began working for the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office as an Assistant Circuit Attorney in the White-Collar Unit. She then made the jump to her current position as an Attorney for the Juvenile Officer at the St. Louis County Family Court in January of 2022. Since starting her current position, she has had the pleasure of handling delinquency appeals as well as handling both delinquency and abuse/neglect cases.
She participated in her first oral argument in front of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District in the spring of 2023. The majority of her job duties at this time include appellate writing in delinquency cases and handling certification cases.
