Join us for a discussion with Dr. Jennifer Rukstad is the Executive Director of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA). Topic: Rules of Eligibility for Student Athletes.
This class qualifies for 1.2 MCLE hours.
Dr. Jennifer Rukstad is the Executive Director of the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA). Rukstad was in public school education for 24 years, as a high school math teacher and coach, athletic director and assistant principal, principal, and assistant superintendent. She holds four degrees, each from the University of Missouri, with the last being a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership. Jen leverages her experience as a high school educator and leadership at the state level with the Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association and the MSHSAA Board of Directors to represent the nearly 800 member schools in grades 6 through 12 in the administration of 18 interscholastic sports and four activities, and a growing number of emerging sports and activities. She is the also the host of the “MSHSAA All Access” podcast. Jen served two terms on the NCAA Student Records Review Committee, and is currently on the NFHS Middle School Committee and a member of the NFHS Foundation Board of Directors and the NFHS Strategic Planning team. Jen and her husband and two children live in Columbia, Missouri.
The Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) is a voluntary, unincorporated association of member schools. The schools have established a set of rules regarding the terms and conditions for the schools as members, and also the eligibility standards for students to participate in the interscholastic sports and activities. Among the standards are citizenship, which includes directives on eligibility after interaction with law enforcement. Due to the fact the majority of students in member schools are juveniles, juvenile officers are often in the middle of eligibility issues, even though they are not part of a member school. The rules and implications will be discussed in order to provide greater understanding.
