MJJA Welcomes New Executive Director


MJJA welcomes Marcia Hazelhorst, who will assume the position of MJJA Executive Director in December, 2012.

Many MJJA members already know Marcia through her work in the 13th Circuit (Boone and Callaway Counties). Marcia began her career with the courts as a Deputy Juvenile Officer in the Callaway County office, where she served from 1996 to 2002.

In 2002, Marcia was promoted, and served as a Supervisor in that same office until 2010. In August, 2010, Marcia was again promoted, this time to the position of Superintendent of Detention Services at the Robert L. Perry Juvenile Justice Center in Boone County.

In addition to her court responsibilities, Marcia has been involved with MJJA for over ten years. She has served MJJA as a Regional Board Representative, the Board Secretary and the Board Vice President.

Marcia also serves on the Policy Leadership Team and is Chair of the Program Leadership Team.

Marcia graduated from Lincoln University in 1994 with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice and received her Masters Degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice in 1998.

In 2012, Marcia was accepted as a participant in the Annie E. Casey Applied Leadership Network. She and Jay Rodieck from OSCA were selected by the Annie E. Casey Foundation to represent Missouri as one of six teams in the United States . Marcia will complete that program and graduate in March, 2013.

In her new role, Marcia is looking forward to meeting and further developing relationships with MJJA members as well as MJJA partners. She is excited to work with Missouri Legislators and expand upon the partnerships that have already been established.

Marcia and her husband Curt have been married for 24 years. They have two daughters, Jordan and Jessie, and one son, Cole. Marcia enjoys reading, volleyball, and attending her son’s wrestling meets and football games.
